I bought it at an estate sale for $5! I guess mine is the same year model as yours (1994)? Came with 3 containers - one was marked "bad" the other two are a wet and dry container + tamper. I use my dry blade all the time because I make powder from Freeze Drying eggs, milk plus different veggies + fruit. Great to make my own spices... garlic, onion, tomato, mushrooms, parmesan cheese - even anchovy powder!

The reason I started looking for my particular model online is I inadvertently left the small inner cap down in the container and I put some ice in to make an ice-coffee and of course I had a viscous result - it cracked my drive socket in half. I found plenty of places to get one and it looks identical to mine but it always kept listing newer machines as compatible. I couldn't be sure it the part would fit. I couldn't find a supplier who said it would fit a VMO103. So, if it says "Drive Socket Gear Base with Wrench Accessories for Vita-mix 5200/5000/6300" - then I should be good to go? Thanks for publishing this informative article...

I was beginning to think my particular old-as-hell Vitamix had been memory-holed. ;>). My $5 dollar Vita-Mix gets used almost every day - I love it.
Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04039405694130992867noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-465141665036161017.post-36907659829230117822018-01-14T23:36:03.896-05:002018-01-14T23:36:03.896-05:00Vitamix made a conversion kit so that a 3600+ blen...Vitamix made a conversion kit so that a 3600+ blender can use a clear container. It's so much better for chopping veggies, as the blades blow the contents up rather than pulling down like the wet blade. This makes for much better chopping of veggies for things like tuna salad. I never wet chop anymore.

I grind grains, coffee beans, etc., in it as well. Also, I can make almond meal, and other nut meals in it, but can't in the wet container, as it turns them into butters.

Also, wanted to comment that the new vitamix that was released in the last year or so is supposed to have a more powerful motor with higher RPM, so only it will use the short 64oz container (the one that's approximately the same height as the 48oz).Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00466815238043432871noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-465141665036161017.post-86514037472863620292013-10-31T13:53:14.950-04:002013-10-31T13:53:14.950-04:00@Rebecca - No, the polycarbonate containers (32 oz...@Rebecca - No, the polycarbonate containers (32 oz, 48 oz, and 64 oz) will only fit on the newer bases. Yes it's required in order to fit properly with the newer containers. You'll be set with the 64oz and regular (wet) blade. A 2nd container is useful if you want to get into grinding grain or anything that may scratch the polycarbonate. Plus there is a dry blade which is used for grinding grain, and it's nice not to have to switch out blades, which would be necessary if you only have one container. But all in good time. No need to worry about that now.Nhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03638182829314187225noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-465141665036161017.post-18798715957577560812013-06-25T12:44:00.303-04:002013-06-25T12:44:00.303-04:00Thanks for this article. Your answer is clear and simple. I'll get a 64 oz with cutter for now. Can't see a need for a second container. Is their any benefit to the newer rubber base other than allowing the two smaller containers to attach? Wondered if there is any noise or vibration benefits as well.thegroupofonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16945289207009137552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-465141665036161017.post-16208035741654261132013-03-20T13:33:53.167-04:002013-03-20T13:33:53.167-04:00Hi Tim,
